Those were the last words my boss said to me before I confirmed my resignation. You have a choice. Tears were literally brought to my eyes when he uttered the sentence. “I don’t have a choice. I have a family and clients and people that would lose their jobs if I didn’t show up, but you? You have a choice.”
It was insanely liberating and eye opening to hear that simple phrase. I did have a choice and so, I took it. I chose to not continue working for a business that didn’t fill me up or bring me joy. Working for a job that weighed me down and was contagiously negative really took a toll on me. You know what? You have a choice, too.
So here I am. Sitting on my bedroom floor on a Thursday afternoon with no foreseeable plan (or income really). I write this to you in hopes of inspiring others to make a change or take a choice. I’m not saying you should quit your financially stable, full time job like I did. I’m just saying, your happiness relies on you. If you’re not going to fulfill your wants and needs, your hopes and dreams, your love and life, who is?
At this time, I am looking for a future job with ease and comfort. I know the Lord will open the doors that I need and until then, I will be figuring things out on my own. I will be traveling to visit friends on the other side of the country and sleeping on strangers couches. I will be finding my own happiness and making a daily choice to choose the things that fill me up and bring me joy. (And I must say, I am so excited to trade in my stuffy office clothes and wear floral jumpsuits and printed neck scarves without judgement from my coworkers!) What are you waiting for?
