While paging through the multitude of old journal entires I’ve half-written on various documents on my laptop, I came across a page titled, “Things I am thankful for.” After reading the entries from this exact day 1 year ago, I reflected on what a challenging time last spring was for me.
I go through these spirals where my mind “stews.” That’s all I can call it, and if yours stews, too, you know what I’m talking about. My mind grinds over and over on little details, fragments of memories I have that bring about emotions I can’t even begin to digest. I think about how these little things I recorded sent ripples through my life and the ways they’ve changed me as a human. That’s all for another day, but I wanted to share my list of things I was (and still am) thankful for. Most won’t make sense to anyone but those closest to me, but by journaling these things, big and little, I am able to look back and see how much I’ve grown.
I highly recommend you writing things down for yourself, too. Whether you think it now or not, the things that effect you today will no doubt bring back these emotions in the future. Whatever it be- something that makes you happy, was a struggle you battled with, helped you grow… having those to look back on keeps me even more thankful today than I was 365 days ago and may do the same for you. Enjoy.
